“Trump, good for Russia!” said one of the referrals on my analytics data for my website. What?!?! It was kind of strange to see in my data.
Starting about three or four months ago, I started seeing a lot of traffic from Russia on my Google Analytics tracking tools. I thought it was unusual but I didn’t think too much about it. I run a personal website for my job hunting purposes and a personal blog barely anyone reads. Why would Russia give a crap about my website. It always seemed weird and nagged a little in the back of my mind but I had more important things to do like find work. I was building a corporate website for a client which was taking a lot of time and the contract was ending soon so I needed to look for more work. Not enough time to worry about Russia and my little website.
Last week I started to really look at my analytics and noticed this in my data –
“Secret.ɢoogle.com You are invited! Enter only with this ticket URL. Copy it. Vote for Trump!,”
It was 31.14% of the referral traffic for Oct. 3rd through Nov. 27th (68.86% for the previous month). In fact, 29.58% of all sessions on my website for the same two month period (plus the previous month) originated from Russia. I’m pretty sure Russians don’t like me that much or I would’ve been married to a mail order bride by now 😉
So something else is going on.
Several strange referrer traffic things came up quite a bit on my analytics —
______
______
______
Now I have to find a way to block all of this crap from my site. After things lately, I may block anything from Russia to my website on the server side. That wont stop everything as some some of the spamming (like supplements, diet pills, and penis enhancement products) are coming from other locations. That also wont stop people (bots) with VPN‘s (who could be anywhere) from trying to spam my site.
Another way to look at this though might be, “Yay! My site is popular now!” (Ok, not really)
Anyway… up too late tonight. Must sleep.
